It is Sarah-Louise from Dyslexia Support Consultancy. I wanted to show you the six times tables strategy that I show my children with dyslexia, dyscalculia and short term and working memory difficulties

I have just posted the three times tables and it would also be worth watching them to enable you to teach your child the three times table strategy.

We start of, doing the six times tables by having two tic-tac-toe boards with nine squares in each.

At the bottom of the first one we write 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, after 9 comes 10 and we just write the 0 from the ten.

We are going to do the same again on the next grid, start at the bottom, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, not the 1 but the 0 from the ten.

Then we go across by zero on the top line, then on the next line we write two’s and then we know that after two we have a three, so we put it next to the zero and carry it on up here.

Four’s along this row, and fives along the bottom. We pop the six here.

This has now given us the threes and the sixes.

This is the important part, with a different coloured pen you are going to draw a diamond shape and on each point circle the numbers, we also need to circle the ones at the bottom.

You do the same on the other grid, you draw the diamond shape over the top of it and then put circles around the numbers.

Then you can see that we have the 6 time tables 6,12,18,24,30,36,42,48,54,60

That is one strategy that you can help your child to learn so they can remember the six time tables easier.

If you have any comments, please let me know.

Good luck with it all

Testimonials

Sarah brings an amazing energy

"Sarah brings an amazing energy to each aspect of her teaching, she managed to captivate the attention of my five year old daughter and I could see real progress with her reading very quickly. I put this down to a combination of the right personality and enthusiasm for the job coupled with an admirable skill set and qualifications. My daughter is now making much better progress at her school and has improved confidence too. Thoroughly impressed!"
