Dyslexia is a subject I am an expert in, and I say this without bragging because it is fact.

I completely understand it on a professional level because:

I completely understand it on a personal level because I am dyslexic

I know first-hand, from my own experience and from what I have witnessed in some of my pupils by the time they get to me; the impact of living with undiagnosed dyslexia. I have seen:

  • Unfulfilled potential
  • Eroded confidence and self-esteem
  • Reluctance to take on new challenges
  • Struggles to keep up a school
  • Having to re-sit exams (more than once)
  • Behavioural issues

Late diagnosis of dyslexia is not a failure on behalf of parents. We all do the best we can with the knowledge and skills we have been taught or have acquired along the way.

We’re not all good at DIY, or diagnosing and fixing an electric or plumbing problem. We can’t all treat sick animals or fix an accounting problem, so why should we expect that all parents should be expert at recognising the signs of dyslexia?

It’s even more difficult because dyslexia is not always difficulty with reading, it manifests in many other ways.

If you have any concerns at all with your child’s writing, reading, spelling, phonics skills or even their ability to remember instructions, it is worth seeking expert help.

I’m going to use a car analogy to try and illustrate how getting help sooner rather than later will save you a lot of time and angst in the long-run…

Imagine this scenario

Your car starts making a clunking sound while you’re driving. You turn the radio up to drown it out. Days later, you discover you have to pump the accelerator when you turn the key to get it to start. You blame it on the colder weather and just assume that’s what you have to do to get out of your driveway every day. Then you’re on your way somewhere important and your car stops dead on the motorway!

Now you have to get it towed to the nearest garage, where a mechanic assesses it. He tells you that if only you’d got it checked sooner, he could have just replaced a plug at a nominal fee. But, sadly, leaving it until it escalate to a break down has cause damage to the engine and now you have a very costly repair. If only you’d sought expert help when you first saw the signs.

It’s kind of the same with children. If they have difficulty at school, seek expert help before the problem escalates.

Look no further!

Remember earlier when I said I was an expert? I can help your child to get ahead of their learning difficulties before it’s too late.

Testimonials

Sarah brings an amazing energy

"Sarah brings an amazing energy to each aspect of her teaching, she managed to captivate the attention of my five year old daughter and I could see real progress with her reading very quickly. I put this down to a combination of the right personality and enthusiasm for the job coupled with an admirable skill set and qualifications. My daughter is now making much better progress at her school and has improved confidence too. Thoroughly impressed!"
